How to plan a wedding on a budget!

By Tam  //  For Girls  //  7 Comments

When you have a best friend who is like-minded, you’re like red and blue paint splashed together with a titanic force, creating a purple explosion… the guys just nod & say ‘you girls go have fun’ because there’s no stopping us!

So step 1: Find a best friend to help and be creative with you. We’ve been window shopping secretively, for the ring, the dress, the venue, since we planned the baby shower 10 months ago… But seriously, who has fifty freaking thousand Rand to blow on 5 hours? So… You budget!

A girl’s intuition is like trying on a pair of shoes, and knowing they’re going to kill you wearing them… So only invite those who you feel comfortable with (no need for blood relatives to all be there if they hardly know you)

Find Magical ways to fill up the 5 hours! If you’re Greek, definitely invest in the ‘breakable’ plates & do the ‘Ola’ dance. If you’re a fairy like me, find a stunning venue like shades of Green, where there are tables up in the trees, and ponds with Koi fish and cobble stoned pathways leading you on an adventure to your destination – the chapel, it’s so relaxing!

Here’s a quick look at my budget, to give you an idea. How you choose to finance your fairy-tale is a personal decision, but there are some things in life worth celebrating. If that means waiting and buying one thing a month – do so . Build up a wedding trouso’~ it’s your day, and you should feel like a princess ,even if you feel like Cinderella right now… Your prince and you can do this together. It’s exciting and bonding, you’ll get to know each other ‘for better or worse’.

Some advice:  you and your prince charming, are like two rough stones colliding together, and eventually, all the sharp, rough edges become smooth, an eternal love diamond… It’s a process, and takes time~ even if your prince is not so charming when it comes to getting to know you better/ letting you know him better…

So, the retail therapy will definitely help your love diamond ~ha-ha! Men are not the shoppers us women are!

Here’s what us girlies can do to get started; think out the box ~imagine your day!

The season with the most decorations nature has to offer, is Spring, Summer & Autumn (lots of flowers / colour in venues with Gardens.) I like Spring (symbolic of new beginnings, fresh new flowers everywhere) also the climate is not too hot or cold, so you and your prince will feel comfortable in your wedding attire.

I chose a breakfast wedding: 15 adults (incl. the wedding party) and 2 infants, here are the numbers crunched, and some creative do-it-yourself ideas;

    Life really does go quickly~ create memories…

  • hi, where did you find the non-alcoholic champaigne? was it in the same bottle as the norm) im searching online and can’t find anything. hope you’ll be able to help. thanks

  • Hi there Jaci,

    You can find it at any Woolworth’s (in the juice isle)
    It’s just as glittery in gold foil and you really have to read the label to see it’s non-alcoholic, posh-bubbles, cork popping and all. Tastes great too!

    If you are hiring a venue, they make money at the bar, so you’ll have to order from them or pay a cork-age fee of R40-R70 per bottle (way cheaper to order from them then)
